Emulating Nature
In my studio practice, I explore the confluence of science, myth, intuition, and fact. My acrylic mixed-media paintings are based on observations of nature, and on the relationship between what we feel and what we know in perceiving the spaces we occupy. They express my intuitive sense that everything is interconnected and constantly transitioning in an endless cycle.
On the canvas, I emulate Nature's cycle of creation and evolution by utilizing a stream-of-consciousness process, allowing each application of color to inspire the next. Each canvas is a microcosm emulating the energies at play in the larger world, taking shape through palette, texture, and paint. Though the process I seek equilibrium among the elements, a compositional harmony that conveys a living sense of the infinite rhythm of growth, flowering, and decay.
